Overview

Optical Systems Engineer – Medical Devices – Cambridge

Following continued growth, a Medical Devices organisation is currently recruiting for someone to come into the team and focus on the optical systems design. Based in Cambridge, you will work with mechanical engineers, electronics engineers and software engineers to develop life-improving medical devices.

As you will be focusing on optical systems design, it is expected that you have experience as an optical physicist, optical engineer, optical systems engineer, optical systems designer, opto-mechanical engineer or another role that involves optical systems designing, prototyping and testing of new medical devices.

Responsibilities
  • Focus on the optical systems design for medical devices, including prototyping and testing.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electronics and software engineers to develop integrated medical devices.
  • Communicate project ideas and updates clearly and concisely to team members and stakeholders.
  • Develop a range of medical technologies using established optical design tools.
Requirements
  • Experience in optical design roles such as optical physicist, optical engineer, optical systems engineer, optical systems designer or related positions.
  • Proficiency with optical design tools such as Zemax, Code-V, OSLO, FRED or similar software.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborative work and project updates.
  • Industry experience can range from PhD entry to 15–20 years.
  • A degree in a subject that leads to optical systems design; Master’s or PhD education is beneficial but not essential.
