Job description

Hours: 20-24 hours per week (negotiable)

Salary: £26,000 – £30,000 pro rata (depending on experience), plus pension contributions

Location: Office-based, Auldgirth, Dumfries

About the Organisation

The Nith District Salmon Fishery Board is a statutory organisation responsible for the protection, enhancement and conservation of salmon and sea trout stocks within the River Nith, and for the protection and improvement of the fishery as a whole. Nith District Salmon Fishery Board works closely with its sister organisation Nith Catchment Fishery Trust, a Scottish registered charity.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced, organised and self‑motivated member of the team to provide comprehensive administrative and organisational support to the Board and its team. The role is central to the effective day‑to‑day operation of the organisation and involves a mix of administrative, financial, coordination and communications responsibilities.

The successful candidate will have strong organisational and IT skills, a high level of accuracy, and the ability to work independently. An interest in the aquatic or environmental sector would be an advantage, along with good interpersonal and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately entering, maintaining and managing data produced by field staff, including operational, environmental and monitoring information
  • Proof‑reading, formatting and quality‑checking reports, returns and correspondence to ensure accuracy, consistency and professionalism
  • Maintaining up‑to‑date databases and records for personnel, financial, operational and statutory information
  • Supporting Board and staff meetings, including scheduling, preparation of papers, and taking and producing minutes
  • Maintaining financial records, including bookkeeping, payroll, invoicing and budgeting, using Sage
  • Managing office systems, equipment and IT support arrangements
  • Ordering and managing office supplies and equipment
  • Assisting with the preparation of communications and publicity material, including website and social media content
  • Providing general administrative and reporting support to the Fishery Director and Board as required
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience in an administrative or office support role
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Bookkeeping experience, including use of Sage
  • Excellent IT skills, with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Full, clean driving licence and access to a car (office is in a remote, rural location)
