Job description

Oncology RVN

Salary £28,000-34,000 experience dependant.

You will be care-driven and passionate about providing care to our oncology patients and their families. You will be eager to learn and develop your nursing skills to provide optimum care to our patients. You will have great teamwork skills but also be highly self-motivated, taking the initiative to complete tasks as needed. This role is supported by an oncology team keen to develop and further the RVN skills within the service. Although having an RVN with oncology experience would be ideal, it is not essential, as we are happy to provide training.

Tasks:

  • Client care - providing support and nursing advice to oncology patient carers, as outpatients as well as inpatients, including communication about treatments and procedures, anaesthesia, and updates on patient status when they are in the hospital.
  • Booking appointments, re-check examinations and scheduling treatments including radiation therapy treatment. Triaging referrals. Coordination and communication with the patient flow coordinator to maximise efficiency and patient safety.
  • Admitting and discharging patients for oncology, restaging and radiation therapy appointments.
  • Maintain precise and accurate patient records, charging procedures and treatments.
  • Clinical nursing assessments including clinical examinations for general health, BCS assessment and basic parameters.
  • Ensuring chemotherapy health and safety requirements are adhered to.
  • Sedation or anaesthesia for diagnostic work-ups, including endoscopy, CT scans, ultrasound scans, biopsies and other sampling techniques.
  • Packing and processing in-house and external laboratory samples correctly.
  • Preparing and administering chemotherapy safely.
  • Assisting with radiation therapy patients.Assisting with the maintenance of stock levels of oncology drugs and supplies.
  • Working according to oncology SOPs
