Nursery Nurse - Barnsley

Are you a caring, enthusiastic, and qualified Nursery Nurse looking for flexible, ongoing work in early years settings across Barnsley? Academics are recruiting dedicated nursery professionals with a Level 2 or 3 childcare qualification (CACHE Diploma, BTEC, NVQ, or completed Early Years Education apprenticeship) and Paediatric First Aid training for temporary roles within welcoming and supportive nurseries, with the potential for long-term and permanent opportunities for the right candidate.

Position: Nursery Assistant

Location: Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Contract: Temporary, flexible ongoing (with potential long-term/permanent opportunities)

Pay: Starting from £13.68 an hour (paid via PAYE - no umbrella fees)

Start Date: ASAP or a start date that suits you

About the Role

As a Nursery Nurse, you will support children in early years settings, helping to create safe, nurturing, and stimulating environments where children can develop socially, emotionally, and academically. You will assist with daily routines, learning activities, and care needs, ensuring the wellbeing and safety of all children at all times.

This opportunity is ideal for a Level 2 or 3 Nursery Nurse who is passionate about early years education and looking for flexibility while still making a meaningful impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Support children aged 0-5 with learning and development
• Assist with planning and delivering EYFS-based activities
• Promote independence, communication, and social skills
• Supervise play, meal, and outdoor learning times
• Provide personal care where appropriate
• Use Paediatric First Aid knowledge when required
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
• Work collaboratively with nursery practitioners and room leaders

Candidate Requirements

• A Level 2 or Level 3 childcare qualification (CACHE Diploma, BTEC, NVQ, or completed Early Years Education apprenticeship) - Level 3 preferred for fully qualified roles
• Paediatric First Aid certificate (required for newer qualifications)
• Understanding of EYFS and safeguarding
• A caring, patient and proactive approach
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
