The Nurse Associate will work as a member of the General Practice Nursing team under the guidance of a Registered General Nurse and support the organisation and facilitation of clinical care in a holistic and proactive manner to patients registered at the practice.

You will maintain a high professional standard of nursing care in adherence to all Practice protocols/policies & guidelines, as well as to provide nursing assistance to the GPs and other members of the primary healthcare team.
The role of the Nursing Associate needs to be flexible in line with the present atmosphere for change within the health service delivery. It is essential that the Nursing Associate works within their own level of competency and expand their role in accordance with practice requirements and own scope of practice

Deliver high quality, compassionate care while undertaking specific clinical and care tasks under the direction of a registered nurse (or other registered care professional) with a focus on promoting good health and independence
Nursing Associates work in practice, independently under theleadership of registered nurses, working within the sphere of nursing and care,and within all aspects of the nursing process.
They will support in taking Smears, Childs immunisations,bloods, ECG, Asthma and Diabetes reviews.
To assist and perform routine nursing tasks related to patient care, such asroutine BP checks, ECG, suture and clip removal, BMI and lifestyle advice, asdirected and agreed with line manager, registered general nurses and GPs.
To support patients to improve and maintain their mental,physical, behavioural health and wellbeing by using behaviour changeinterventions, such as undertaking health checks (physical and mental), smokingcessation services.
To support the RGN with the holistic assessment and planningof wound care plans for patients with chronic and acute wounds.
To implement agreed wound care plans, following local andnational evidence-based guidelines, inclusive of the treatment of minortraumatic wounds within own level of competency. To recognise any deteriorationof wounds or infection and arrange early review with PN/GP or specialist asrequired.
Carry out Chronic Disease Management annual reviewsdelegated by the Practice Nurse or senior colleague.
Support the Practice Nurse with the management of patientswith long-term conditions/chronic diseases, using a holistic patient centredapproach.
Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient careas directed by the Practice Nurse GP or other member of the Primary HealthCareTeam.
Be able to undertake baseline observations and identifysigns of improvement, report any deteriorations or concerns, e.g. pulse, bloodpressure, respirations, oxygen saturations, peak flow, spirometry, bloodglucose levels, ECG, assessing nutrition and hydration, participate inscreening programmes and Annual Reviews for example in patients with LearningDisabilities .
Perform cervical smear screening on completion of additionaltraining as guidance RCN Position Statement on Registered Nursing Associates(RNAs) training in cervical sample taking.
Administer medications as prescribed and in accordance withNMC standards e.g. via nebuliser or injections using sub-cutaneous orintramuscular route under Patient Specific Directions.
Following agreed protocols with referral to Practice Nurseor GPs as appropriate assist in the assessment, planning, developmentimplementation and evaluation of programmes to promote health and well-beingand prevent adverse effects on health and well-being.
Deliver opportunistic health promotion using opportunitiessuch as new patient medicals and NHS health checks.
Document consultations accurately and appropriately,according to NMC guideline
Ensure awareness of statuary and local clinical adult andchildren safeguarding protection procedures, including systems of referral.Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of abuse/neglect.
Ensure infection prevention and control guidelines aremaintained.
To be responsible for providing the appropriate nursingevidenced based care of an allocated group of patients.
Be an accountable professional who is responsible for theiractions, working in line with NMC standards of proficiency.
Recognise and work within the limits of their competency.
To work as part of multidisciplinary team using resourcesefficiently.
To deliver quality care to patients and to work effectivelywithin the nursing team.
To be competent in carrying out a variety of clinicalprocedures.
