Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, reliable and highly motivated individual to join our dedicated team at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire as a Band 2 assistant. The successful candidate must enjoy working with people and have a genuine interest in patient care. Excellent communication skills, teamwork and the ability to work independently are essential.

Responsibilities
  • Assist patient care before, during and after imaging examinations, coordinating the movement of inpatients with porters and preparing patients for their examinations (height, weight, blood sugar, etc.).
  • Provide support and assistance to patients and staff as required.
  • Assist technologists, scientists and nurses with the examination and care of radiology patients, clerical procedures and preparation as required.
  • Assist patients in preparation for and during routine and specialised nuclear medicine examinations, establishing and maintaining a good communication channel to support patient confidence.
  • Observe and care for patients while waiting for examinations and communicate any concerns to trained staff as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the transfer of inpatients for scans with porters and clinical staff into appropriate scan environments at the right time.
  • Check patient identification and documentation in accordance with departmental protocols and clinical requests.
  • Assist radiologists, scientists, registrars, technologists and nurses in performing examinations, attending to patient welfare at all times.
  • Support service delivery by coordinating workflow and facilities within specialised areas.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times; clean and perform routine operational maintenance on equipment as required and participate in the departmental Quality Assurance programme.
  • Be familiar with, understand and apply the principles of radiation safety, both nationally and locally regulated or protocol‑led.
  • Facilitate communication between the department and all service users, patients, relatives, staff and external users, including adherence to Trust policies and participation in annual appraisal or review systems.
  • Communicate with patients and professional colleagues in situations that may be traumatic due to work pressures or where the patient’s condition may be a barrier to comprehension and compliance (e.g. claustrophobia, learning difficulties or injury/trauma).
  • Assist in the implementation of all manual and electronic information systems ensuring consistently accurate data collection and recording, supporting standard data collection, performance activity, audit and capacity and demand analysis.
  • Assist with practical experience of newly inducted staff.
  • Ensure in house stock movement, especially specialist room stocks, and linen handling according to infection control standards.
