Job description
Non Financial Risk Associate - Finance Division

Join the Finance Risk & Assurance (FinRiA) team at Morgan Stanley and help embed strong non financial risk practices across the Finance organisation.

This Associate role is ideal for someone who is curious, highly organized, and eager to build depth in operational risk, governance, and controls while partnering with senior colleagues.

FinRiA is a globally integrated function that oversees non financial risk and assurance activities for Finance. Our remit spans Risk & Control Self Assessment (RCSA), Operational Risk Governance, Business Continuity Planning (BCP), Information Security, Third Party Risk, Fraud Risk, and related frameworks. We work across regions and functions to provide clear risk insight, strengthen controls, and support informed decision making.

Success in this role means learning our risk frameworks, applying them consistently, and communicating clearly with a wide set of partners in Finance and second line risk teams.

What You'll Do
Risk Frameworks & Governance
  • Coordinate inputs for RCSA cycles (risk identification, control evidence, action tracking) and maintain high quality documentation.
  • Support Operational Risk Governance forums by preparing packs, capturing decisions, and following through on actions.
Resilience & Controls
  • Assist with BCP activities (e.g., plan updates, testing logistics, result capture) and liaise with partners on remediation items.
  • Help monitor control health across areas such as Information Security, Third Party Risk, and Fraud Risk, escalating inconsistencies to seniors.
Reporting & Insight
  • Prepare recurring risk reporting (metrics, dashboards, packs) using Excel/PowerPoint; help QA numbers and narrative for consistency and clarity.
  • Track issues and incidents in firm systems, ensuring statuses, owners, and timelines are current and accurate.
Stakeholder Support
  • Partner with Finance teams and second line counterparts (e.g., Operational Risk, Compliance) to gather inputs and resolve queries.
  • Contribute to process improvements by documenting pain points and suggesting practical changes to streamline work.
What You Bring
  • Experience in non financial risk, internal control, audit, assurance, or a Finance/Operations role with risk exposure (Financial Services preferred).
  • Foundations: Working knowledge of one or more of: operational risk concepts, RCSA, issues/incidents, or resilience/BCP.
  • Execution: Strong organisation and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple deliverables and meet deadlines.
  • Communication: Clear written and verbal communication; confident preparing slides and summarizing messages for different audiences.
  • Tools: Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Word; familiarity with Power BI, Alteryx, Tableau, or ServiceNow is a plus.
  • Education/Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent). Progress toward a relevant qualification (e.g., CA, ACCA, CIMA) is a plus, not required.
