A city centre youth hostel in Manchester is seeking a Development Duty Manager to support the Night Manager and oversee night operations. The successful candidate will engage with guests, assist in managing a team, and ensure the property is secure and clean. Ideal applicants will have experience in hospitality, customer service, and team management. Are you looking for a fun and varied job in hospitality? YHA Manchester are looking for a Development Duty Manager to support the Night Manager! Our night team really make a positive difference to our operation. We're looking for someone ready to take the next step and support our experienced Night Manager in managing the hostel during the night.
YHA Manchester is a city centre Youth Hostel located in the historic Castlefield area of Manchester next to the canal. We accommodate people from all over the world, from backpackers stopping by on their travels, to school groups, to lively weekend crowds staying to enjoy various events (and of course football)!
Specific duties include preparing and serving a basic night food menu, serving drinks on our bar till 2am, checking in late arrivals and dealing with any queries. You will also be maintaining the security of the property, cleaning our public areas and preparing everything ready for day ahead. You'll either be working with our Night Manager or managing a Team Member on your shifts. We really value our night team and really want someone who is hard working and wants to contribute to our success. The role will be 4 shifts per week.

We are a friendly team and will provide the training required for you to undertake the role. However, there is plenty for you to get stuck into from day one, including:
Guiding and supporting team members working in all areas of the hostel, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
Using our systems for efficient guest check-ins and check-outs, food and beverage sales and service and other management functions.
Carrying out housekeeping duties, ensuring a comfortable, clean environment for all visitors.
Assisting in the preparation of food and serving food and drinks with genuine warmth, hospitality, and pride that will influence in more sales.
Deputising for the Hostel/Deputy/Night Manager, managing the daily hostel operation in their absence.
Our Development Duty Managers are responsible for the line management of the teams within their own hostels, along with the management of occasional volunteers. They are also responsible for managing the operational budget and the safeguarding of all guests.
To provide this service we are looking for candidates who have:
Experience of working face-to-face with customers
Experience in hospitality or customer service, including the management and delivery of a quality service
Experience of managing a team - experience of leading others, providing guidance to members of your team (desirable)
Food safety level 2 and APLH level 2 qualifications (desirable)
Ability to manage varying pressures, include peaks in workload demands - can prioritise, able to deal with conflicting duties
Basic IT skills (ideally Microsoft Office) - able to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel
Knowledge and understanding of the core purpose of YHA - what YHA does and how we do it
