Job description
Overview

The Asset Management - HD Team has a clear vision – to be trusted experts and asset class specialists, who leverage the wider expertise of our Chief Engineer department, and provide a focal point for our Hafren Dyfrdwy Operational and Delivery teams. We work collaboratively to balance asset risk and performance across the investment portfolio, whilst understanding the local context of our customers and assets.

Our Network Optimisation team members are responsible for ensuring that we meet our expected water supply service standards for our customers. They are the architects of our network - adapting its configuration and controls, performing root cause analysis investigations to system failures, identifying ways to put things right, working out how to proactively improve performance of the network, and developing proposals to ensure the short and long-term performance of the water network.

In this Technician role, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise on our water supply network, investigating asset performance, providing analysis and investigation, and producing technical reports using hydraulic modelling. You will work closely with our Network Optimisation Specialist, and Support Technician, to optimise the network and drive down leakage. This role will also assist in targeting trunk main leakage in the short term, as we continue to develop our in-house capability on upstream leakage targeting.

You will have great analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to determine and promote the best solution. You will be passionate about delivering a quality and reliable service, and be able to communicate complex ideas clearly to a range of different stakeholders.

So, if you think you have the right mindset for this role, keep on reading.

What you’ll bring to the role

You will have an appreciation, or direct experience, of how the water network operates – ideally with a minimum of 12 months experience in a similar utility or engineering environment.

You will have great IT skills, working with spreadsheets, presenting graphical data and using our systems to extract and analyse data, including GISST, SAP and Netbase.

Experience:

  • Application of hydraulic principles
  • Hydraulic modelling
  • Network asset operation within an operations or engineering environment
  • Water regulatory framework (Desirable)

Capabilities:

  • Ability to be an enthusiastic team player
  • Capability to work with minimum supervision – self motivated
  • Exceptional standard of written communications skills
  • Ability to verbally communicate complex issues to appropriate audience
  • Good numeric / analytical skills
  • Ability to analyse and problem solve complex issues
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and deliver against targets

Qualifications:

  • GCSE passes (or equivalent) in English and Maths
  • Degree in a STEM subject (Desirable)
  • As travel is required, it is also expected you will hold a full U.K driving licence.

The right skills and experience are important. But if you have the right character, positivity, and a caring attitude we want to talk to you too.

What’s in it for you

Working here isn’t just a job. You can build a career at Hafren Dyfrdwy. We’ll reward you for it, too.
