Qualifications

As an IT Network Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing and maintaining our organisation's network infrastructure. This role is based in our Lymedale DC (Newcastle‑under‑Lyme).

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
  • Manage, deploy and maintain the organisation's network infrastructure, including all voice, data, LAN and WAN infrastructure, switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers and wireless access points. Ensuring they remain available in line with the agreed SLAs.
  • Develop and implement cloud networking strategies for public, private and hybrid cloud environments. Configure and manage virtual networks, subnets and security groups on cloud platforms e.g. Microsoft Azure.
  • Implement and manage network security measures, to include Checkpoint and Cisco Firewalls, Cloud Security, Site‑to‑Site VPNs and remote access solutions. Implement and maintain security best practices for cloud networking, ensuring data integrity, confidentiality and availability.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to the IT support team. Resolving IT infrastructure‑related incidents, service requests and problems in a timely and efficient manner in line with Business requirements. Liaising with 3rd Parties where appropriate.
  • Provide timely communication to users on the status of their service requests and incidents.
  • Undertaking IT infrastructure‑related problem diagnosis, implementing problem resolution or prevention measures as appropriate. This is to include audit, monitoring, capacity management, planning, security, patching etc.
  • The technical expert for all Network related activities, making recommendations on future operational enhancements or investments. Participating in capacity planning and network expansion projects to support the company's strategic direction.
  • Design, deploy and maintain robust and scalable network architectures both on‑premises and in the cloud.
  • Maintaining IT infrastructure support technical documentation.
  • Be a part of the Networks team providing 24/7 on‑call and out‑of‑hours support to the business.
  • Ensuring capacity, availability, security and service support requirements are considered in all IT infrastructure changes and that all changes meet the agreed service acceptance criteria.
  • Ensuring Asset and Configuration Management principles, processes and procedures are applied.
  • Assist in disaster recovery planning and execution in the event of network failures.
WHO YOU ARE
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or equivalent.
  • Professional certifications, such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CCNP, CCSA, Microsoft Azure Network Engineer Associate or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as an IT Network Engineer or a similar role.
  • Experience of Cloud networking and Security.
  • In‑depth knowledge of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, layer 2 switching and layer 3 routing protocols including OSPF, EIGRP and BGP.
  • Configuration and deployment of Cisco hardware (Catalyst and Nexus) in an enterprise setting.
  • Configuration and deployment of Cisco ASA firewall appliances.
  • Configuration and deployment of Checkpoint firewall appliances.
  • Configuration, deployment and management of wireless devices and an understanding of wireless communications.
  • Proficiency in Network administration, monitoring and troubleshooting mainly using Cisco systems, including Cisco ISE and DNAC.
  • Experience of the Meraki SDWAN solution and dashboard.
  • Experience with network security best practices and technologies.
  • Configuration of F5 Loadbalancers (desirable).
  • Knowledge of telephone systems, VoIP, PSTN.
  • ITIL qualification (Desirable).
