Named Nurse – Safeguarding Children

HDFT have an exciting opportunity for a Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children to join our team in South Tyneside 0-19 / Public Health Nursing Services.

The Named Nurse role is integral to integrated management team supporting the 0-19 services contracts. You must be a registered nurse with significant knowledge and experience in safeguarding children and of working in community/ acute services.

We are looking for individuals who already have expert knowledge and experience in relation to safeguarding children and have the skills to have management oversight of a local Safeguarding Team as well as the wider Safeguarding Children HDFT Team.

You will be responsible for providing visible leadership, knowledge and expertise in relation to safeguarding children. You will work closely with the Head of Safeguarding, the Named Nurse/ Professionals for Safeguarding Children and Adults across the organisation, and with a wide range of multi-disciplinary colleagues, including the wider safeguarding children partnerships, to ensure we provide outstanding safeguarding services.

To support the Head of Safeguarding, Deputy Directors for Children, Young people and Safeguarding and the head of Public Health Nursing to develop Safeguarding Children Services and meet statutory requirements for Harrogate District Foundation Trust. This will be focused on the children's community settings, but the role will also be part of the wider Specialist Safeguarding team.

To work closely with other Named Professionals/ Designated Professionals/ Associate Directors of Nursing / Heads of Public Health Nursing and Operations 0-19/25/ Deputy Directors for children, young people and safeguarding in supporting all activities necessary to ensure that the Trust meets its responsibilities in safeguarding children.

To fulfil the role and responsibilities of the Named Nurse Child Protection as detailed in “Working Together to Safeguard Children” (2023), The Children Act (1989 and 2004), and “Safeguarding Children and Young People, Roles and Competencies for Health Care Staff” (2019).

The post holder will contribute to local service planning, delivery, redesign and performance management in relation to safeguarding children’s services in the specified area as well as support the wider HDFT footprint.
