Maintenance Engineer - Mechanical Bias

📍 Location: Bury St Edmunds
💷 Salary: £38,300 + 28 Days Holiday + Pension + Training
🕗 Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Days Only - No Nights, No Weekends)

Are you a mechanically-biased Maintenance Engineer seeking a stable, Monday-to-Friday role with real variety and long-term development prospects? Join a well-established distribution centre near Bury St Edmunds, where you'll work across a broad range of equipment and support general site maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mechanical maintenance and repair of distribution equipment
  • Conveyors, pallet wrappers, tail lifts, loading bays
  • General facilities and building maintenance
  • Occasional forklift use (training provided if needed)
  • Welding and fabrication tasks (advantageous but not essential)
  • Progression into refrigeration and specialist equipment maintenance
What We're Looking For
  • NVQ / City & Guilds in Engineering (Mechanical and/or Electrical)
  • Solid experience with:
    • Hydraulic systems - loading bays, tail lifts
    • Pneumatic systems - pallet wrappers, conveyors
    • Gearboxes, drives, motors & bearings - key plant components
    • Chains, belts & rollers - maintenance of moving equipment
    • General mechanical fitting & fault-finding
    • Previous experience in a factory, warehouse, or distribution environment
    • Confident working independently and solving problems on the spot
    • Forklift licence or willingness to train
    • Welding skills a plus but not essential
