Qualifications

Job description

Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer

Location: Birmingham (site-based)

Salary: £46,000 - £47,000 per annum (DOE)

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring all production machinery and site services remain fully operational. You will work within TPM systems, carrying out both reactive and planned maintenance while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance. This role requires flexibility with shift patterns and the ability to work independently when required, including being the sole engineer on site at times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reactive breakdown response and fault resolution across production and site equipment
  • Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) in line with TPM systems
  • Electrical and mechanical fault diagnosis and repair, including PLCs, inverter drives, HMIs, control circuits, Conveyors, multi-head weighers, check weighers, Flow wrappers, over-wrapping and gas-flush machines
  • Routine maintenance of plant, machinery, and building services
  • Accurate maintenance records and documentation
  • Support health & safety, environmental, and company compliance requirements
  • Assist with continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and site projects
  • Maintain and operate building services systems including Refrigeration, fire alarms and sprinkler systems, Air handling, air conditioning, and BMS systems
  • Carry out any other reasonable engineering duties as required
Working Environment
  • Fast-paced manufacturing environment operating 24/7
  • Chilled and ambient areas
  • Working at heights when required
  • Shift work and occasional weekends
  • On-call cover for night shift may be required
Technical Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer
  • Background in a food or automotive manufacturing environment (preferred)
  • Strong electrical fault-finding skills on control and distribution systems
  • Experience with PLC programming and fault-finding; Inverter drives, HMIs, instrumentation, and BMS; 3-phase systems; DC control and safety circuits; Able to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics; Excellent mechanical skills including fabrication, welding, motor and gearbox repairs, and plumbing; Experience managing TPM systems, statutory compliance, and health & safety processes
Qualifications
  • Recognised engineering qualification to HNC level or equivalent
  • IEE 17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
Desirable (not essential)
  • MEWP, FLT
  • IOSH / NEBOSH
  • Food Safety certification
