Job Overview

As a Mobile Screener you will be covering various community sites as full UK driving licence is essential., Screening/Digital photography Deliver digital photographic retinal screening to patients with diabetes aged 12 and over registered with a Lancashire General Practice. Install mobile equipment at designated screening location in accordance with proper and safe use, identified protocols and the operational policies of both the Lancashire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme and of the designated screening location. Set up the allocated room(s) as required and in accordance with proper and safe use, identified protocols and the operational policies of both the Lancashire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme and of the designated screening location. Conduct Diabetic Eye Screening sessions in accordance with proper and safe practice, national standards, and identified protocols and with the operational policies of both the Lancashire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme and National policies and procedures.

Explain the screening procedure to each patient according to National and local policy and procedures. Confirm and record electronically patients' identity and demographic information. Obtain and record electronically appropriate consent to screening and information sharing, according to National and local policy and procedures.

Team and Services

As one of our Mobile screeners you will be joining a very busy, professional team of motivated and highly skilled individuals, you’ll run local community-based clinics to see our patients and photograph their eyes to assess for diabetic retinopathy. We’ll need you to be empathetic and able to screen patients on a daily basis. In this role, you’ll be supported whilst undertaking your training, but once that’s completed will be working largely unsupervised in a pressured environment, so a cool head is essential! All in all, we want you to be customer and people focused, caring about our patients and being passionate about delivering an exceptional service at all times.

Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs including level 4 or above in English, Maths and a Science subject or equivalent
  • Experience of working with the general public
  • Patience, concentration and good attention to detail
  • Ability to work to schedule to ensure clinics run on time
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and the general public
  • Comfortable working with the general public including physical contact and instillation of eye drops
  • Willingness to undertake formal training with initial and ongoing assessment and quality assurance
  • Commitment to delivering a high‑quality service respecting the needs of patients
  • Able to respond calmly and appropriately in challenging situations
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service, including some early evenings and some Saturday mornings
  • Car driver with valid licence
  • Willing to travel to Clinical locations across Lancashire
  • Physically able to manipulate equipment and prepare patients for screening
Desirable Criteria
  • Hold or working towards the Level 3 Diploma for health Screeners
  • NHS, medical, ophthalmic or digital imaging experience
  • Instillation of mydriatic drops
  • Visual acuity testing
  • Digital Fundus Photography, Has access to a vehicle

  • Please note that the salary advertised is for full time hours. If this post is less than 37.5 hours per week, the salary will be pro‑rata. For posts on Agenda for Change pay‑scales, new entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point of the relevant band.
