Overview

Ministry of Defence General Practitioner (MOD GP) – fixed-term appointment covering a gapped military post. The role begins upon appointment and ends on 8 November 2028, with arrangements in line with MOD Fixed-term Appointment policy. The closing date is 01 October 2025.

Are you seeking a salaried GP role that allows you to deliver excellent clinical care while maintaining a healthy work-life balance? This opportunity offers primary care sessions, occupational medicals, and time for administrative tasks within a supportive primary health care team at RAF Marham, Kings Lynn (PE33 9NP) as part of the Valiant Combined Practice with RAF Honington. Part-time candidates will be considered on a job-share basis to ensure full-time coverage.

Job responsibilities

Duties of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Attending regular multi-disciplinary meetings to ensure continuous quality improvement and healthcare governance, with daily case discussions among doctors.
  • Providing general healthcare to all registered patients during normal practice hours.
  • Undertaking mandatory medical examinations and provide appropriate occupational healthcare and advice, and all supporting administrative duties.
  • Providing primary care emergency treatment to patients within the Establishment when required.
  • Supervising management of communicable diseases, including monitoring and reporting through single Service chains.
  • Representing the Senior Medical Officer on medical practice-related issues, including participation in unit health committees where appropriate.

The successful post holder will deliver regular primary health care and, when suitably trained, occupational health care in line with GMC standards to support organisational objectives and optimise patient care. The position involves delivering acute and scheduled primary care to a diverse mix of military and civilian patients, with 15-minute appointments covering all aspects of the GP curriculum including pediatrics, ante-natal care, mental health, and chronic disease management.

We operate as part of a cohesive Primary Care Team including Doctors, Practice Nurses, Physiotherapists, Pharmacy Technicians, Exercise Rehabilitation Instructors, Health Care Assistants, Practice Management, and RAF Medical Assistants. An in-house dispensary is available and access to community mental health and rehabilitation teams to maximise patient recovery potential. Continuous professional development is encouraged with opportunities for certification in occupational, aviation, and sports and exercise medicine.

Selection process

Relocation expenses are not offered, with exceptions for Non-Standard moves as per policy. All new Civil Service employees will undergo a 6-month probation period. Successful candidates must meet security requirements (security check) before appointment. If offered, evidence of Hepatitis B immunity may be requested.
