Overview

The successful candidate will be an autonomous practitioner, taking responsibility for the provision of care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods for women and babies in the hospital and in Continuity of Care settings.

You will be responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of care to both high and low risk women in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period in the hospital and the Continuity of Care setting. You will also support the team/ward in the effective management of the clinical area. You will support, supervise and teach staff/students in evidence-based client-centred care, being responsible for ensuring that all care is delivered according to Trust policies and procedures and maintaining associated records of care.

We have a robust preceptorship package in place for newly qualified midwives and a dedicated Practice Development Midwife. The midwifery teams at WUTH provide care to approximately 3200 women and their families in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period, both low and high-risk women. Encompassed within the unit is a Level 3 Unit for Neonatal Services, Children’s Services and the Women’s Unit. We have a reputation for innovation in providing high-quality care to women in a hospital/community setting.

You should have excellent interpersonal skills and a clear demonstration of the ability to provide personalised maternity care. You should have a clear commitment to current developments and initiatives within the Midwifery arena and sound knowledge of current issues in the public health agenda.

Responsibilities
  • Provide continuous, personalised midwifery care across the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods in hospital and Continuity of Care settings.
  • Assess, plan and implement care for both high- and low-risk women across all stages of pregnancy and postpartum.
  • Support the team/ward in the effective management of the clinical area and contribute to safe, evidence-based care.
  • Support, supervise and teach staff and students to deliver client-centred care to a high standard and maintain relevant care records in line with Trust policies.
  • Participate in a robust preceptorship package for newly qualified midwives and collaborate with the Practice Development Midwife.
  • Contribute to the responsibilities of the midwifery team within the Level 3 Neonatal, Children’s and Women’s Units and support continued innovation in care delivery.
