What does it take to be a Metering Technician?
  • Customer focused individuals based within 30 minutes of Scunthorpe and surrounding villages
  • Professional image, uniform and van provided
  • Role can be physically demanding; you will walk approximately 3 to 8 miles per day
  • Use a handheld computer to carry out your work
  • Flexible hours within 6:30 to 20:00 Monday to Friday and 08:00 to 14:00 on Saturdays, including early starts and late evenings when customers are most likely to be at home

The Metering Technician will act as the customer’s champion, ensuring that all customer-driven meter reading queries, planned meter readings and boundary box meter exchanges are undertaken within levels of service, maintaining customer service and quality levels. They will ensure that any reactive work is correctly identified and reported to allow for completion within levels of service. They will ensure that all billing information amendments are correctly reported to improve customer service.

The Metering Technician will complete meter reading-related operations by ensuring all meters are read accurately, maintaining accurate records and ensuring maximum efficiency and productivity. Identify and report any maintenance jobs, meter exchanges and potential leaks efficiently and liaise with the customer as appropriate.

The Metering Technician will complete non-routine reading and income-related operations such as conducting flow tests to confirm correct supply connections, replacing lids, completing void inspections and confirming correct plots to postal addresses.

The Metering Technician will complete meter exchange operations in an efficient and cost-effective manner, being aware of any impact to the customer, escalating incidents that may compromise the water network and ensuring all work on the network meets necessary regulations. Ensure new and old meters are tracked and stocks are held.

The Metering Technician will comply with all elements of health and safety regulations and ensure the health and safety of themselves and the public. Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers and contribute positively to enhanced team and cross-team working.
