Job description
Overview

We have regular one to ones where you can be transparent, open and honest about matters affecting you and your work. As part of the team, you will work collaboratively with Psychiatrists, Nurses, Social Workers, OTs and others. The collective support and knowledge is there to enable you to do your work at the best of your capability.

Role

The role of a Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner at Central Access Point is to co-ordinate and provide specialist telephone assessments, interventions and expertise to service users in crisis 24/7, 52 weeks per year over the phone in the community team. The successful candidate will collect, collate and accurately report patient information, maintaining accurate, complete and contemporaneous nursing records in line with NMC / HCPC and Trust standards, involving clients/service users and carers/relatives in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate shift working in partnership with Turning Point recovery workers who will need your support and expertise.
  • Work collaboratively to maintain effective communication as a multi-disciplinary team member and with other professionals/agencies to ensure needs are met in a safe and effective manner.
  • Conduct specialist assessments of risk and provide preventative and responsive interventions as part of the Mental Health Central Access Point.
  • Be part of a dynamic, professional and diverse team and gain experience across the acute sector.
  • Develop skills by mentoring students, supervising Band 3 staff, and engaging in leadership training provided to support you.
  • Demonstrate excellent ongoing assessment, problem-solving and risk assessment skills; work autonomously and within a team.

Mental Health Central Access Point (MHCAP)

Mental Health Central Access Point (MHCAP) is a 24-hour telephone service based at Anstey Frith House, County Hall in Glenfield, Leicester. This is a platform for callers who have used the NHS 111 option and selected option 2 for Mental Health Support. The key skills for this role include ongoing assessment, problem solving and risk assessment, with support to work both autonomously and within a team.
