Job summary

A leading apparel design firm in the United Kingdom is looking for an experienced licensed apparel designer. The role involves developing ranges for specific retailers while understanding consumer needs. Candidates must possess strong CAD skills and commercial handwriting. Excellent communication, organization, and the ability to travel are essential for success in this position.

Qualifications

Job description
Main Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Identifying and understanding the end consumer for specific retailers and their needs for proper range building.
  • Guiding customers/buyers on market trends, fashion & licensed‑specific apparel.
  • Developing ranges and products for customers.
  • Presenting ranges to buyers including mood boards and research.
  • Daily contact with sales and technical teams within the UK office.
  • Developing and sourcing new trims and fabrics.
  • Producing accurate and detailed CAD drawings and accurate artwork files for product sampling.
  • Ensuring that samples produced are accurate in line with specification.
  • Carrying out trend research and analysis and creating mood boards and colour trends. To include "Comp Shop" trips within the UK + European travel.
  • Attending industry trade fairs and maintaining a strong awareness of current product on the high street.
  • Liaising with licensors on a regular basis to ensure full and up‑to‑date knowledge of respective properties, to include attendance at licensor specific events, eg showcases.
Experience / Skills
  • High level of experience working as a licensed apparel designer in required product area with strong commercial handwriting in a supplier environment.
  • Professional personal presentation with excellent customer presentation and communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • On‑trend, with great commercial forecasting ability.
  • Possess a strong understanding of fabric and trim bases, graphics and embellishment, garment specs/fits as required.
  • Strong CAD skills with a working knowledge of Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Confidence in range development with a strong ability to predict fashion and license trends and customise them into commercial products in order to meet the expectations of the customer.
  • Sound knowledge of garment construction as well as the ability to produce accurate and detailed spec drawings.
  • Highly organised and capable of working to and managing deadlines, working as part of a team and individually self‑motivated.
  • Able to travel both in the UK and abroad.
  • Strong organisational skills and accuracy critical.
