Medicines Management and Dispensary Technician

The London Clinic is seeking a Medicines Management Dispensary Technician to join the Pharmacy Team. Based at The London Clinic Main Hospital, 20 Devonshire Place, London, W1G 6BW, this is a rotational post through the Main Site Dispensary, Duchess of Devonshire (DDW) Cancer Services Dispensary, and MMT services.

Job responsibilities

To participate in a safe, efficient and accurate, technician-led pharmacy operational service across all sites. Ensure that the Dispensary, MMT and Ward services are delivered in a safe, effective, economical and timely manner. Ensure that all documentation and procedures are carried out in accordance with current legislation and guidelines.

To participate in a safe, efficient and accurate, technician-led pharmacy operational service across all sites at The London Clinic. This is a rotational post through Main Site Dispensary, Duchess of Devonshire (DDW) Cancer Services Dispensary, and MMT services. The post holders will ensure that the Dispensary, MMT and Ward services are delivered in a safe, effective, economic and timely manner. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all documentation and procedures are carried out in accordance with current legislation and guidelines.

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week.

Location: The London Clinic Main Hospital 20 Devonshire Place, London, W1G 6BW.

Salary: Band 5 equivalent salary range on offer based on skills and experience. Benefits package includes:

Duties & Responsibilities

To support the Operational Manager- Medicine Management and Education and Training and ward pharmacists in managing and expanding efficient, accurate and flexible near-patient service to hospital wards.

  • To perform Medicine Management duties in allocated wards, including assessment of Patients Own Drugs (on attaining training), drug history taking of new patients, near-patient dispensing, discharge facilitation with counselling services, ordering of inpatient and one-stop medicines (transcribing for supply) and annotating drug charts (according to departmental policies).
  • These activities will be supervised and performance assessments will be carried out until the candidate completes training and competencies.
  • To assist the ward pharmacists in providing comprehensive patient counselling, particularly regarding discharge medication.
  • To assist ward pharmacists and non-medical prescribers by providing advanced medicine optimisation with clinical prioritisation (on attaining the qualification).
  • To participate in and support data collection and analysis, including clinical audits, as requested by the Lead Pharmacist- Governance or the Operational Manager- Medicine Management and Education and Training.
  • To provide information to nursing and medical staff on drug availability, as appropriate.
  • To support the development of ward-based projects, including automation and training of ward and pharmacy staff.
