Job description
Overview

Liverpool Clinical Laboratories invites applications for a Band 3 Medical Laboratory Assistant within the Haematology and Transfusion Department at the Royal site. The department operates 24 hours and handles a high throughput of samples with modern automation.

The post holder will work under Agenda for Change terms and conditions, on a shift pattern covering Monday – Friday and some weekend hours. You will support the day-to-day activities of the Haematology and Transfusion Laboratories under the direction of qualified staff as part of the pathology team.

Responsibilities
  • Process clinical specimens for biological testing and related supporting functions.
  • Perform maintenance on laboratory instruments and run internal quality control as per section policy.
  • Identify and communicate outliers to Biomedical Scientists.
  • Undertake relevant unsupervised housekeeping laboratory duties in a timely and efficient manner as directed by departmental policy.
  • Accurately enter and retrieve confidential patient information using the laboratory computer system, in accordance with Caldicott guidelines.
  • Provide general clerical support and assist with day-to-day laboratory tasks under supervision or independently as required.
Person Specification / Qualifications
  • Essential
  • Minimum of 2 GCSEs or equivalent in science subjects.
  • Demonstrable NHS laboratory/office experience.
  • Good time management and excellent communication skills.
  • Numerate with IT and keyboard skills.
