Overview
Mechanical Project Engineer responsible for the technical design, planning, and execution of mechanical systems within large-scale infrastructure projects, such as flood defences and water treatment plants. The head office will be Warrington, with sites around the Northwest, on a freelance basis.

Key responsibilities
- Design and Engineering :
- Developing detailed mechanical designs for systems like pumping stations, pipework, ventilation systems, and HVAC units, including calculations, drawings, and specifications.
- Selecting appropriate mechanical equipment based on project requirements and performance criteria.
- Conducting feasibility studies and cost estimations for mechanical components.
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant engineering standards and regulations.
- Project Management :
- Managing the mechanical aspects of a project from concept to completion, including scheduling, resource allocation, and budget control.
- Coordinating with other engineering disciplines and contractors to ensure smooth project execution.
- Monitoring progress against project timelines and identifying potential risks or issues.
- Liaising with clients and stakeholders to address technical queries and manage expectations.
- Technical Expertise :
- Performing technical analysis of mechanical systems, including stress analysis, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer calculations.
- Evaluating and specifying materials for mechanical components.
- Troubleshooting technical issues and proposing solutions during construction and commissioning phases.
- Site Supervision :
- Regularly visiting project sites to monitor installation and construction of mechanical systems.
- Inspecting equipment and ensuring compliance with quality standards.
- Collaborating with site teams to resolve any technical issues that arise during construction.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
- Proven experience in mechanical design and project management within the infrastructure sector
- Expertise in relevant engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Solidworks, FEA)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
