Mechanical Principal / Associate Designer - HVAC

Parkinson Gray Associates delivers a proven service to some of the leading Consulting Engineering and Contracting businesses within the British construction industry, predominantly across the Building Services, Energy and Sustainability sectors.

Location: Remote (UK) • Must be based in North West England

Type: Full-Time, Permanent

The Opportunity

We’re supporting a well-established, multi-disciplinary consultancy that works across design, technical advisory, project management and building services. They operate in a variety of sectors, including healthcare, manufacturing, education and infrastructure. Due to continued growth, they’re looking to bring a Mechanical Principal / Associate Designer into their team. Although the role is fully remote, it’s important that you are based in the North West, as you’ll be helping to build the consultancy’s presence in the region while supporting ongoing and future projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical design across a range of building projects, from early concept work through to detailed design.
  • Manage mechanical design packages, ensuring quality, compliance and efficient delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership and support the development of junior designers within the team.
  • Play an active role in business development, identifying opportunities, building relationships with regional clients and helping to secure new work.
  • Maintain ongoing client relationships and contribute to design reviews and strategic project discussions.
  • Work closely with other disciplines, architecture, cost consultancy, digital, and project management to deliver coordinated, high-quality solutions.
  • Oversee the production of reports, drawings, specifications and design calculations.
  • Support CDM responsibilities and contribute to design risk management.
  • Help develop internal processes, design standards and best practice across the team.
About You
  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in mechanical design within a consultancy environment.
  • Proven capability in leading design teams or significant project workstreams.
  • Confident in business development, client engagement, and winning work.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical building services systems (HVAC, plant, piping, etc.).
  • Skilled in producing and reviewing technical documentation and design calculations.
  • Familiar with relevant UK legislation, design standards, and building regulations.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Chartered or working towards chartership (CIBSE, IMechE, or equivalent) is advantageous.
