Job description

A leading packaging manufacturer in the Scunthorpe area is looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join their team on a Panama shift pattern.

The ideal candidate will be a hard-working and adaptable Mechanical Technician with a technical background in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Maintenance Team Leader, you will provide planned, preventative maintenance and respond to reactive breakdowns.

This is a fantastic opportunity with a multi-national packaging company that supplies to some of the biggest companies in the industry.

Role: Mechanical Maintenance Technician
Location: Scunthorpe
Salary: £19.50 per hour
Shift: Panama (Days & Nights) (20:00 – 08:00)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems, assemblies, and components.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing mechanical issues, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Conducting fault analysis and identifying early signs of mechanical failure.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, technical documentation, and standards.
  • Using and maintaining measurement instruments and mechanical tools.
  • Participating in scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Supporting the implementation of WCM (World Class Manufacturing) practices.
  • Inspecting and verifying the quality of finished parts and sub-assemblies.
  • Collaborating with other departments and maintenance teams for smooth operations.
  • Assisting operators with routine machinery maintenance.
  • Supporting training efforts and cooperating with external personnel.
  • Maintaining appropriate PPE and adhering to all health and safety procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with ISO standards and other relevant regulations.
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned, consistent with the role.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in maintenance engineering within fast-paced manufacturing sectors (e.g., Automotive, Food, FMCG).
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems such as hydraulics, gearboxes, bearings.
  • Ability to read technical drawings.
  • Willingness to work Panama shifts.
  • NVQ Level 3 qualification or a time-served apprenticeship.
