Maintenance Mechanical Fitter – Faslane

Location: Faslane

Salary: £39,999

Hours: Monday-Thursday, 36 hours per week (07:15-16:45). Overtime available.

Eligibility: UK Nationals only - must be able to obtain Security Clearance (SC).

Job Description

Manpower are looking for a Mechanical Fitter that will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, repairs, and inspections on a wide range of mechanical systems and equipment across the estate. This includes working with pressure systems, boilers, and associated plant, interpreting engineering drawings, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards. The role requires problem-solving at the point of work, mentoring apprentices, and taking a lead role in tasks involving multiple teams. Work can range from routine daily maintenance to complex projects lasting several weeks and may involve confined spaces, work at height, outdoor environments, and exposure to hazardous substances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs.
  • Diagnose and rectify defects in mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Interpret technical drawings, procedures, and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with H&S legislation, COSHH, and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Sustain and suggest improvements to processes and productivity.
  • Mentor apprentices and provide guidance to operatives.
  • Lead on multi-team maintenance tasks when required.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Mechanical systems, pressure systems, boilers.
  • Engineering drawing interpretation and maintenance documentation.
  • Risk assessments, COSHH, and safe working practices.
  • Experience with confined space, working at height, and hazardous substances.
Qualifications (Essential)
  • Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship (or equivalent).
  • Asbestos Awareness (valid 3 years).
  • Confined Spaces for Competent Persons (valid 3 years).
  • Working at Height / Occasional Climber (valid 3 years).
  • Manual Handling (valid 3 years).
  • Skilled Person Electrical Access Only (valid 3 years).
