Mechanical Maintenance Engineer - Sheffield

Stafforce Recruitment are proud to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly regarded steel manufacturing business based in Sheffield. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a large, heavy industrial site offering long-term stability, strong earning potential and a structured shift pattern.

Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off - 12-hour days and nights (6am-6pm / 6pm-6am)

Salary: £46,000 per annum

The Role

Working as part of the site engineering function, you'll support the mechanical maintenance requirements of a busy steel manufacturing operation. This is a hands‑on role with exposure to a wide range of plant and equipment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Attending mechanical breakdowns and diagnosing faults across varied plant and equipment
  • Supporting operations across steelmaking, casting and finishing areas when required
  • Using mobile plant to assist engineering and operational activities
  • Responding to first‑line maintenance issues, carrying out safe and effective repairs
  • Completing planned maintenance tasks and contributing to continuous improvement of maintenance schedules
  • Ensuring all health & safety procedures, documentation and PPE requirements are strictly followed
  • Keeping systems such as Agility up to date and ensuring clear handovers to the oncoming shift
About You

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience within a heavy industrial or manufacturing engineering environment
  • Apprentice‑trained or time‑served Mechanical Engineer / Fitter background
  • Experience of both preventative and reactive maintenance
  • A proactive, enthusiastic and self‑motivated approach
  • The ability to work independently or as part of a wider engineering team
  • Strong communication skills to liaise with engineers, operators and shift management
  • A solid understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements
  • Proven fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills
