Job Description:

Mechanical Maintenance Engineer (service and repair)

My client is seeking a skilled and reliable Heating Engineer to join our team at Hammersmith, St Mary’s & Charing Cross Hospitals.

The ideal engineer will have experience in maintaining, repairing, and installing Low Temperature Hot Water, Medium Temperature Hot Water, and Steam Systems.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven experience as a heating engineer, preferably in healthcare & commercial settings.
  • Strong knowledge of heating, hot water systems, and controls.
  • Relevant certifications (NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Tasks to be carried out:

  • Monthly PPM and reactive visits related to plant; Heating & Hot water Calorifiers, Plate Heat Exchangers.
  • Removing bundles from calorifiers for inspection/de-scaling.
  • Upgrading system components such as gauges and safety valves.
  • Replacing key system components like Pumps, motorised valves, modulators, slam shuts, plate packs.
  • Re-pipe works when systems fail.
  • Various system upgrades due to age.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular inspections and servicing of all heating systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Respond promptly to heating emergencies or system failures.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs, and communicate effectively with supervisors/managers.
  • Coordinate with staff during hospital upgrades.
  • Report recommendations to line management.
  • Work across multiple sites daily; be adaptable to ad-hoc emergencies due to building age.
  • Work with steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, copper, and ABS, utilizing crimped systems.
