Overview
Role Overview: As a Mechanical Designer you will assist in the daily operations of Storytellers Design and Engineering team. You will take full ownership of design challenges and see them through to resolution as they are your own, while being a superior brand ambassador of our reputation within our vibrant community of vanlifers, adventure seekers, and outdoor enthusiasts.
Salary: Starting @ $65,000 + Incentives + Rewards
Responsibilities
- Create, modify, and maintain detailed SolidWorks part, drawing, and assembly files to support project requirements and production needs.
- Collaborate with design and engineering teams to model and develop vehicle components, prototypes, and production support equipment.
- Develop manufacturing and inspection (QC) prints for both new and existing parts, ensuring clarity and accuracy for production teams.
- Maintain and organize file and folder structures, managing updates, revisions, and model year changes to ensure efficient document control.
- Track and manage revisions for supplier and vendor parts, ensuring accurate records and seamless communication with external partners.
- Input and maintain part, assembly, and drawing data for the vehicle BOM to ensure alignment with production requirements.
- Reverse engineer supplier parts to generate CAD data when required, ensuring compatibility with existing designs and production processes.
- Support R&D initiatives by assisting with vehicle assembly and testing as needed.
- Identify opportunities to improve design processes and implement best practices to enhance overall efficiency and quality.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings and contribute insights to support the development of innovative and manufacturable designs.
- Contribute to the success of the design and engineering team by fostering a collaborative, cooperative, and supportive team environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned, maintaining flexibility and adaptability to support team and organizational goals.
Work Schedule
- Flexible: Typically, Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Qualifications
- SolidWorks Design Experience
- General understanding of drafting standards
- Comfortable with SolidWorks Weldments and Sheet Metal functions
- Familiar with sheet metal manufacturing best practices
- MS Office or G Suite familiarity
- Aptitude for learning quickly, high attention to detail, and good problem-solving skills
- Strong data entry practices, communication skills, and active listening
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks with patience
Education and Experience
- 2+ years of SolidWorks Modeling including sheet metal and weldments
- 2+ years of SolidWorks Drafting experience
- Familiarity with MS Office and G Suite
- Prior experience in or around manufacturing
- Proven track record in fast-paced, detail-oriented environments
- Associate degree in Drafting or a Drafting Certificate
- SolidWorks Certifications (CSWE, CSWP, CSWA)
Physical Requirements
- Sitting for long periods, desk-based work with computer use
- Light lifting up to 50 pounds
- Reaching and stretching as needed
- Visual and mental concentration for data analysis and documentation
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks with ergonomic awareness
- Ability to sit or stand for meetings as required
