Job summary

Design Engineer - Heavy Fabrication / Industrial Equipment

Location: Leeds (Hybrid - 1 day WFH)

Salary: Up to £40,000 + Benefits

About the Business

This specialist engineering business designs and builds large-scale industrial equipment. With a strong engineering and manufacturing setup, they take contracts from concept through to installation, producing bespoke solutions for complex industrial applications.

The Role

As a Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for producing detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor. Working closely with Design Managers, Stress Engineers, and Project Engineers, you'll take ownership of modules within larger projects and ensure designs are accurate, efficient, and manufacturable.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Creating 3D models and manufacturing drawings for large-scale fabricated equipment.
  • Producing and maintaining bills of materials and ensuring drawing compliance with internal standards.
  • Working across projects such as air filtration systems, wind boxes, nozzles, structural steel, sheet metal, and stainless‑steel assemblies.
  • Liaising with the shop floor to ensure designs are practical and aligned with production capabilities.
  • Supporting design reviews, production meetings, and occasional site visits in the UK and overseas.
  • Carrying projects from design phase through to completion, ensuring deadlines are met.
The Person

We're looking for someone with:

  • HNC/HND (or above) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong 3D CAD skills - Autodesk Inventor preferred.
  • Experience in heavy engineering, large fabricated equipment, or sheet metal/steel structures.
  • At least 2 years' design-for-manufacture experience.
  • A detail‑focused approach and clear communication skills.
  • Flexibility to occasionally travel within the UK and abroad.
