Overview
From 11 UK sites, our team of nearly 1,000 people delivers unique capabilities across space, air, land, sea and cyber for military, security and commercial customers across the UK and worldwide. L3Harris in Bristol is our headquarters for our Maritime UK businesses which provides warship automation systems through control and simulation solutions that are in service on Albion Class Landing Platform Docks and Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers. More systems are being developed and delivered for Type 26 and Type 31 frigates. We have additional Maritime UK sites across Burgess Hill, Barrow-In-Furness and Portchester. Together, we are powering the Royal Navy's adoption of autonomous surface vehicle technology as well as delivering autonomous capability to UK ports, harbours and offshore energy service providers.
Responsibilities
- Provide mechanical technical support to all stages of the design lifecycle, from concept definition and system/equipment development, through first article and formal qualification, to manufacture and customer acceptance.
- Work closely and build relationships with our internal systems engineering and design teams in generating mechanical specifications and environmental requirements, developing robust product designs, defining, and implementing cost effective design for manufacturing strategies.
- Develop mechanical/structural designs.
- Produce and take ownership of the design artefacts including, including 3D models, mechanical drawings, BOMs, etc.
- Perform tolerance stack analysis and shock/stress analysis/calculations of mechanical designs, with the capability to justify analysis and calculations.
- To develop mechanical/structural design in line with environmental/shock qualification plans and strategies in support of equipment/system development and formal acceptance.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Degree qualified plus a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
- Experience working within a heavily regulated industry.
- Experience with AutoCAD Inventor or SolidWorks.
- Experience of product development, design for manufacture and failure analysis.
- Resilient, flexible and adaptable approach.
- Strong communicator.
