Job description

Materials Buyer - Main Contractor

Location: Harrow (Site & Office Based)

I am currenlty workking with an established and growing main contractor delivering high-quality construction projects across London and the surrounding areas.

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, they are looking to appoint an experienced Materials Buyer to support our live and upcoming developments based in and around Harrow.

This is a hands‑on role suited to a commercially aware buyer who understands the demands of site delivery and can build strong relationships with suppliers to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to specification.

The Role

• Procure materials for residential construction projects, from groundwork through to completion
• Place and manage purchase orders in line with programme requirements
• Source competitive pricing while maintaining quality and reliability of supply
• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and merchants
• Monitor lead times, resolve supply issues, and ensure continuity of materials to site
• Liaise closely with site teams, commercial, and project management teams
• Manage delivery schedules, shortages, and returns
• Maintain accurate procurement records and cost control data

About You

• Proven experience as a Materials Buyer within residential construction (main contractor experience preferred)
• Strong knowledge of traditional build materials and construction sequencing
• Commercially aware with strong negotiation skills
• Organised, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced site environment
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with site teams
• IT literate (Excel and procurement systems experience preferred)
