Position details
Salary: £29,181 – £33,558 (Band 6) • Full Time (37 hours per week) • Permanent

Overview

We are looking for an independently-minded scientist to carry out world-leading research into the drivers of air-sea exchanges of heat and momentum and their uncertainty. The main focus initially will be on quantifying uncertainty in air-sea exchange in the challenging environment of the Southern Ocean. This post contributes to the strategic research programme of the NOC Marine Physics and Ocean Climate Research Group and will contribute to the delivery of science for projects including ORCHESTRA (Ocean Regulation of Climate by Heat and Carbon Sequestration and Transports) and CLASS (UK Climate Linked Atlantic Sector Science Programme) at NOC within the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).

About you

You will have a PhD or equivalent experience, ideally in atmospheric or oceanographic sciences, and be skilled in using and developing data analysis software. You will be able to demonstrate the mathematical ability to handle theoretical aspects of air-sea interaction research. You will be highly motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team. You will have excellent communication, oral, written and presentation skills.

What we can offer

The starting salary is between £29,181 and £33,558 per annum (Band 6). Depending on skills and experience, additional allowances may be available for exceptional candidates between £500 and £2,000. Additional allowances will be evidenced against scientific track record, including publications, experience in related projects and relevant postdoctoral researcher experience.
