Job description

Job Title: Manufacturing Explosives Technician

Location: Glasgow

Role: Full Time

Hours: 4 day week Monday-Thursday / 37 hours per week

Due to demand, we’re looking for an experienced Explosives Technician to join our Optronics and Missile Electronics [OME] business unit in Glasgow. With good experience in explosives processing, handling, and safety, you will carry out various assembly and testing tasks within the Explosives Lab following work instructions and engineering drawings where required.

The roles are based at our Glasgow manufacturing site. You will work a 4-day week from Monday to Thursday, with 9.25 hours per day.

What you’ll do…
  • Comply with legislative stipulations and organisational health, safety, environmental policies, e.g., Explosives Regulations 2014.
  • Contribute to activities to prevent fire and explosions.
  • Prepare and set up an explosives processing lab and equipment.
  • Prepare explosives for processing and storage tasks in line with work instructions and operating procedures.
  • Undertake routine disposals of explosives.
What you’ll need…
  • Excellent knowledge of safe systems of work regarding explosives.
  • Good working knowledge of processing and handling all types of explosives.
  • Ability to understand and interpret work instruction sheets (W.I.S.).
  • Experience in explosives/weapons testing.
  • Understanding of standard explosives safety procedures, e.g., HAPTM checks, environmental considerations.
  • Ability to perform complex mechanical assembly of products in an explosives environment.
  • Experience building electronic assemblies.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Reasonable IT literacy.
  • IPC (J-STD) qualification is highly desirable but not essential.
  • Eligibility to obtain full SC clearance.
  • Capability to perform complex manufacturing operations according to documentation and quality standards.
  • Adherence to company processes.
  • Ability to perform self-assessment and product approval.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Detect faults or non-compliance, raise alerts, contribute to diagnostics and root analysis.
  • Manage and record product build configurations.
  • Use company tools (ERP, Palma, etc.) for product assembly.
  • Participate in improving explosives processing areas and processes.
  • Undertake activities to ensure FFE certification.
  • Participate in generating, reviewing, or evaluating standard operating procedures for explosives.
