Job description

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Management Accountant to join a reputable Local Authority’s Finance Team, working on a hybrid basis with travel up to 2 times a week into their Central Leicester based office.

Previous experience within a Management Accountant role, ideally within a government or public sector environment is essential, therefore please only apply if you can demonstrate this on your CV.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide accurate, timely and relevant financial advice and information to support departmental decision-making
  • Monitor and interpret financial performance, delivering insightful analysis and reports to senior managers and stakeholders
  • Develop partnerships across the organisation, ensuring managers have the knowledge and skills to manage budgets effectively
  • Support financial planning processes, including submissions to government and partner organisations
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial systems, processes and management reporting
  • Ensure compliance with the Council’s financial management policies and procedures
Requirements:
  • Experience working in a finance role within a complex organisation (public sector desirable)
  • Ability to provide financial advice that influences strategic and operational decisions
  • Experience in financial planning, monitoring and reporting
  • Experience working with non-finance managers, providing guidance and training where required
  • Familiarity with partnership working and cross-functional collaboration
  • Financial analysis and reporting skills, with the ability to interpret complex data clearly
  • Communication skills, able to explain financial concepts to non-finance colleagues
  • IT skills, particularly in financial systems, Excel and reporting tools
  • Ability to balance priorities, manage deadlines and work under pressure
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify risks and recommend solutions
  • Collaborative approach with interpersonal and stakeholder management skills

Vacancy Details:

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm

Salary: £22.73 per hour D.O.E

Location: Leicester City Centre, Hybrid Working

Job Type: Temporary for approx. 6 months, potential to extend
