The Role
As Management Accountant, you will take ownership of the day to day and monthly financial operations, managing the full finance cycle from transactional processing through to insightful management reporting and strategic support. You will work closely with operational teams, bringing clarity, structure and commercial insight to financial decision making, while continuously improving processes as the business grows.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations
- Process purchase invoices, ensuring accurate coding and approvals
- Manage accounts payable, including supplier setup, payment runs and query resolution
- Raise sales invoices and manage accounts receivable
- Carry out credit control to maintain healthy debtor balances
- Perform bank reconciliations and monitor cashflow
- Prepare and post journals including accruals, prepayments and stock adjustments
Tax and Compliance
- Prepare and submit VAT returns accurately and on time
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, HMRC requirements and internal controls
Costing, Inventory and Margins
- Maintain cost accounting records across all product lines
- Track and analyse costs relating to materials, bottling, packaging and logistics
- Calculate and review gross margins, highlighting variances and opportunities
- Support stock valuation and inventory reconciliations
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Support annual budgeting with accurate modelling and operational input
- Prepare monthly and quarterly forecasts for revenue, costs and cashflow
- Identify trends, risks and opportunities through clear financial analysis
Management Reporting
- Produce monthly management accounts including P&L, balance sheet and cashflow
- Provide meaningful commentary on performance versus budget and prior periods
- Prepare reconcilations, schedules and audit support as required
- Present financial information clearly and commercially to non finance stakeholders
Intercompany and Group Accounting
- Manage intercompany transactions and balances
- Ensure accurate recharges, reconciliations and transfer pricing across group entities
Process Improvement
- Review and improve finance processes, controls and systems
- Support the implementation of new accounting tools or ERP systems
- Champion a culture of accuracy, efficiency and continuous improvement
About You
Essential
- Qualified or part qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), or strong QBE
- Experience in a hands on, end to end accounting role
- Solid knowledge of bookkeeping, management accounting and reporting
- Strong Excel skills and confidence using accounting software
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Proactive, confident and comfortable suggesting improvements
- Strong communicator who can work effectively with non finance colleagues
Desirable
- Experience in FMCG, drinks or manufacturing
- Exposure to cost accounting, product costing and inventory
- Experience in a small or scaling business environment
