The South Wales Major Trauma Network was established to enhance care and outcomes for patients experiencing major trauma. At the heart of this network is the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) as the designated Major Trauma Centre (MTC), delivering specialist care and rehabilitation for patients with complex injuries.
The Major Trauma Patient Liaison Practitioner (MTPLP) will play a pivotal role dedicated to providing holistic support for patients and their families/carers during their journey. UHW is the Major Trauma Centre (MTC) for the South Wales Trauma Network (SWTN). The MTPLP will support the collaborative delivery of the MTC Advice Service. The role will be fully integrated within the Major Trauma Service and focusing on ensuring that patients and families/carers are provided with personalised information, emotional and practical support.
The MTPLP will offer compassionate care and advocate for the needs of patients and families/carers. In addition, the MTPLP will support the Major Trauma Directorate ensuring that there are effective and efficient clinical governance mechanisms in place, particularly in respect of clinical risk management and patient safety incidents. Under the direction of the Directorate Management Team, the MTPLP will ensure all patient safety incident reports, claims and concerns are investigated as appropriate in line with UHB processes, with a focus on lessons learnt.
