Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Carpenter at Leicester Royal Infirmary to join University Hospitals of Leicester.

The role requires the following qualifications: a Recognised Trade Apprenticeship in Carpentry/Joinery or equivalent, and a City & Guilds Certificate or NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry/Joinery or equivalent experience/qualification.

University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) is one of the biggest and busiest NHS Trusts, serving the one million residents of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. UHL is responsible for delivering integrated healthcare for the region, with ambitious plans for the future.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake all joinery works to hospital property, internally and externally, to a high quality and acceptable craft standards and approved methods of working.
  • Interpret technical manuals, undertake fault diagnosis and solve maintenance problems. Communicate technical knowledge to others, particularly in the safe use of fixed woodworking machinery and other portable equipment.
  • Undertake site inspections and surveys, determine plant, access, materials and tools requirements, and report any defects.
  • Use and operate the Estates CAFM computerised labour management system. Plan and prioritise own workload. Complete works dockets, amend as needed, and feed back into the system, accounting for work times and weekly hours on the timesheet.
  • Be conversant with and use all relevant fixed woodworking machinery within the joiners shop in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, PUWER Regulations 1998, Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005, and COSHH Regulations 2002.
  • Diagnose, repair, undertake fault finding and be conversant with specialist items of ironmongery and hardware, including locks, digital locks and mortice locks, closers, door and floor springs, and window gear.
  • Undertake Building Planned Preventative Maintenance including statutory fire door and window checks and other patient-related items such as bedside lockers.
