Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical & Electrical Quantity Surveyor to provide commercial support to the Project Teams and Technical Services Managers on high-spec laboratory projects. This role is pivotal in ensuring accurate cost control, compliance, and value engineering across complex M&E packages within cutting-edge science and technology environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate closely with the project teams to manage all commercial aspects of M&E works.
  • Prepare detailed cost plans, bills of quantities, and tender documentation for laboratory fit‑out projects.
  • Conduct value engineering exercises to optimize design and cost efficiency without compromising compliance or quality.
  • Oversee procurement of M&E packages, including negotiation with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Monitor project budgets, variations, and financial reporting throughout the lifecycle of the project.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory standards and client specifications for laboratory environments (e.g., CL2/CL3 containment, cleanrooms, specialist ventilation and gas systems).
  • Support risk management and provide commercial insight during design development and delivery phases.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Proven experience as an M&E Quantity Surveyor within construction or fit‑out projects, ideally in laboratory or technical environments.
  • Strong understanding of building services (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, specialist gases) and associated compliance requirements.
  • Excellent commercial acumen with the ability to manage budgets and negotiate effectively.
  • Familiarity with cost management software and standard forms of contract.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
  • Experience in life sciences, pharmaceutical, or research facility projects.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards and health & safety requirements for laboratory environments.
