Job description
Overview

The Royal Air Force is seeking an experienced Skill Zone logistics specialist or a candidate seeking to develop within the Civil Service logistics profession. The role is based at Royal Air Force Cosford within the Logistics Squadron, part of the Operational Support Wing (OSW). It supports the Defence School of Aeronautical Engineering and other resident and parented units, providing assurance of regulatory and legislative compliance to the Station Commander as Head of Establishment.

This is a full-time position (37 hours per week) focused on the receipt and issue of Defence Accommodation Stores furnishings and uniform dress, providing technical expertise, and acting as the interface between the Logistics Squadron and our customer base. The role involves working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a focus on high-quality service delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the materiel account and integrity of physical stock and storage regulations; conduct quality assurance activities.
  • Deliver Defence Accommodation Stores furnishings to Whole Force personnel at RAF Cosford and to parented formations across regions.
  • Drive Forward Delivery white fleet vehicles and diesel Fork Lift trucks for heavy load deliveries.
  • Unload visiting vehicles, unpack equipment from external contractors, and check deliveries for quantity and quality.
  • Carry out manual handling and installation of domestic furnishings to offices and Single Living Accommodation areas.
  • Manage ACTO assets, including valuable ceremonial swords, equipment, sleeping systems and cot beds.
  • Perform general warehouse duties: secure storage, issue, loan, conditioning, disposal and receipt of Domestic Stores assets.
  • Stocktake and dispose of non-movement items; engage with Whole Force personnel (Military, Civil Servants and contract partners) verbally and by email.
  • Process discrepancy reports and Customer Observation Reports for loss or damage of equipment in transit.
  • Manage scrap commodities in compliance with disposal regulations and legislation.
  • Supervise Skill Zone 1 Labourer.
Requirements
  • Essential: Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Desirable: previous experience in logistics/warehouse; manual handling experience (training available); familiarity with MJDI or USAS stores accounting IT software; forklift operator (training provided if not held).
  • Ability to balance changing priorities, work autonomously, and communicate clearly with personnel at all levels.

Benefits & Conditions

Salary: £23,583 with a Civil Service Pension contribution of £6,831 (Defined Benefit Pension). The post does not offer relocation expenses. External recruits will be subject to a six-month probation. Travel interview expenses are not reimbursed.
