Logistics Controller
£35,000 plus Benefits
The Logistics Controller ensures the efficient movement of raw materials, components, and finished products throughout the global supply chain. This role supports manufacturing, engineering, and customer operations by coordinating shipments, optimising logistics processes and costs, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Manage inbound and outbound movement of raw materials and finished goods.
- Coordinate daily, bi‑weekly, or weekly shipments to customers in line with customer and production schedules.
- Monitor work‑in‑progress (WIP) status of product and finished goods between sites, out for delivery, and ensure proof of delivery received.
- Assist with product packing and labelling.
- Plan and schedule domestic and international shipments, ensure correct weights and dimensions, and comply with customer terms.
- Prepare shipping documentation such as commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and certificates of origin; ensure all finished goods are post‑goods invoiced.
- Coordinate with carriers, freight forwarders, 3PLs, and customs brokers to ensure on‑time delivery and cost efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to export control regulations (EORI, EAR, ITAR, Tariff codes), HTS classifications, and global trade compliance requirements.
- Maintain accurate logistics records and support audit requirements.
- Follow EHS guidelines for handling hazardous chemicals and cleanroom‑compliant materials.
- Work closely with production planners, procurement, engineering, quality, and customer service teams to resolve logistics constraints.
- Communicate shipment status, risks, and recovery actions to internal stakeholders and external customers.
- Support logistics requirements including sample shipments, QC reject returns, engineering samples, FAI's, and tooling transfers.
- Identify opportunities to improve transportation lead times, freight cost efficiency, and inventory accuracy.
- Assist in implementing logistics automation tools, tracking systems, and ERP enhancements (SAP, Oracle, etc.).
- Track logistics KPIs and generate reports on on‑time delivery, freight cost, carrier performance, and cycle times.
Qualifications
- 2‑5 years of logistics or supply chain experience, preferably in a high‑tech or engineering environment.
- Knowledge of global shipping regulations, customs procedures, and export controls.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑mix/low‑volume operations environment. Experience of build‑to‑order.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and logistics management tools (SAP, Oracle, Kinaxis, etc.). Ideally SAP trained.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
- Familiarity with lean principles, Six Sigma, or supply‑chain optimization methodologies.
Hours of Work
Monday to Friday (Half day Friday); 12:30pm finish every Friday.
