Job description
A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust

This is an opportunity for a full‑time locum (fixed‑term) post in the Breast Team as an Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon. The post will be working across UHDB at the Royal Derby Hospital and Queen's Hospital Burton. The post holder must have experience in oncoplastic breast surgery.

Provision of a Breast Surgical service to the population of Burton and South Derbyshire, including parts of South Staffordshire and North West Leicestershire.

Responsibilities
  • Continuing care and treatment of patients in your charge and personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan, allowing for proper delegation to and teaching of trainee staff.
  • Cover for consultant colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absence, including care of patients and supervision of trainee doctors (a minimum of 6 weeks’ notice must be given for all leave requests).
  • Professional supervision, training, and management of trainee medical staff, carrying out teaching, examination, accreditation duties as required and contributing to postgraduate and continuing medical education activity locally and nationally as appropriate.
  • Participation in medical audit under local arrangements, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and CPD.
  • Involvement in research and supervision of trainees in audit/research.
  • Work on behalf of the Trust such as domiciliary consultations, or services provided by the Trust for other agencies, e.g. the prison service.
  • Participation in Medical Student Teaching Programmes and Examinations.
Programmed Activities
  • Direct Clinical Care: 8.5 PAs on average per week
  • Supporting Professional Activities: 1.5 PAs on average per week

The Breast Service runs an annualised job plan, and consultants rotate through clinical sessions. The job plan demonstrates a typical week, but consultants are expected to work flexibly and to deliver clinical sessions at both Queens Hospital Burton and Royal Derby Hospital.
