Responsibilities
- Ensure that soiled linen is stored in appropriate areas and within Health and Safety guidelines.
- Maintain quality of work in accordance with documented procedures and undertake quality checks on linen.
- Make straightforward judgments and investigate problems such as fault finding, stock issues and staff cover.
- Perform laundry duties including packing of clean linen, sorting of soiled linen, and programming/emptying of washers and dryers.
- Carry out checks of stock levels on wards and departments using electronic devices and adjust delivery levels accordingly.
- Record daily issues to wards and departments using the Benchmarker software.
- Work with a flexible approach bearing in mind the needs of the service and staff.
- Ensure a clean protective uniform is worn at all times when on duty and use relevant Personal Protective Equipment in accordance with Trust policies.
- Report any signs of infestation to the Linen Services Team Leader.
- Be involved in development training by acting as a buddy to new starters and demonstrating duties.
- Complete timesheets or similar records.
- Undertake cleaning audits and surveys as necessary to own work and demonstrate activities to new or less experienced employees to support induction.
- Applicants must be physically fit and able to carry heavy loads; the role requires activity for prolonged periods including handling soiled linen and processing, folding and packing clean linen to meet service needs.
- Ensure the correct use of equipment following safety guidelines and report faulty equipment to the Linen Service Team Leader.
- Communicate verbally and face to face with staff, patients, relatives and the general public within the Trust.
- Dispose of sharps in accordance with the Waste Handling and Management policy.
- Report accidents to the Linen Service Team Leader.
Location, Hours and Conditions
- The post holder will be based at either the City or QMC Campus as required by service needs.
- Hours of work are 37.5 per week, 06:00 to 14:00, including bank holidays; some weekend working may be required. Salary will be pro rata for part-time workers.
