A state agency in Virginia is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide quality nursing care to adolescents in their facility. Responsibilities include medical evaluations, care coordination, and handling medication requests. Candidates must be graduates of an accredited nursing program and demonstrate understanding of nursing protocols. The position offers multiple shifts and is subject to background investigations.
The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court‑involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.
The Licensed Practical Nurse will provide quality nursing care to residents within DJJ under the supervision of an RN, NP or MD. Evaluates residents' requests for medical services through the use of established nursing protocols. The LPN consults with the RN as needed when using nursing protocols and standing orders. Responds to medical emergencies and practices within the scope of LPN licensure as is defined by the VA Board of Nursing and the prevailing community standards of practice.
Collect medical service requests daily, keep providers informed of resident medical needs, handle medication renewals, refusals, referrals, laboratory/test results, and maintain charts through audits, chart thinning, resupplying forms and documenting nursing notes.
Multiple positions will be filled from this posting. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation and pre‑employment drug screen.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of nursing practice, procedures, and techniques; emergency procedures and medication administration; ability to understand and utilize established nursing protocols and standing orders; consults with RN / NP / MD as needed; consistent follow‑through with direct care patients; transcribes and implements physician’s standing orders; knowledge of adolescent growth and development.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
