Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Salaried GP to join our dynamic team, working across seven practices within our Primary Care Network (PCN). This role offers a unique opportunity to rotate across different practices, providing high-quality GP-related activities and contributing to the delivery of exceptional patient care.

You will be within 2 years of GP qualification and will have the opportunity to enjoy a fulfilling role with up to 6 sessions as a fixed term member of our team.

This post will be employed through the Network Contract DES.

Main duties of the job

The GP will undertake a variety of duties governed by the GMS contract and objectives of Enhanced services including:

  • In person consultations
  • Telephone consultations
  • Visiting patients at home and in nursing homes
  • Checking and signing repeat prescriptions
  • Dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence as required
  • Clinical administration
  • Opportunity to develop interests aligned to the organisation
About us

Childwall and Wavertree Network is a Primary Care Network (PCN) of 7 practices in Liverpool. Our network operates across the Childwall Wavertree neighbourhood which includes Valley Medical Centre, Rutherford Road Surgery, Penny Lane Surgery, Greenbank Road Surgery, Greenbank Drive Surgery, Lance Lane Medical Centre, and Beacon Health at Mossley Hill.

Our combined patient population is approximately 44,000. Our network works very closely with our community team and other local Healthcare providers. The network adopts multi-disciplinary methods of working via an extended clinical workforce which includes Salaried GP's, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Practice Nurses, Nurse Associates, Social Prescribers, Health and Wellbeing Coaches, Mental Health Practitioners, First Contact Physiotherapists and Physicians Associates.

All practices within the network are teaching practices and pride themselves in providing opportunities for staff to develop. The network is wholly committed to creating and maintaining a fair and supportive working environment and culture, where contributions are fully recognised and valued by all, and staff feel empowered to carry out their duties to the best of their abilities with excellent patient care being at the heart.

Job responsibilities

Deliver Direct Patient Care

  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Cover all the clinical management of the patients in surgery as appropriate including initiating investigations, reviewing results, making referrals to secondary care or to other providers as appropriate.
  • Develop care and treatment plans in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols as well wider guidance such as that from NICE.
  • Ensure appropriate follow up of patients.
  • Record clear and contemporaneous computerised consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Participate in clinical audits and learning event analyses and practice meetings.
  • Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions avoiding hand-written prescriptions.
  • Prescribe generically whenever appropriately and in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary, NICE guidance and Good Prescribing Practice (as defined by British National Formulary guidance).
  • Work with and provide support for other members of the primary health care team.
  • Play a lead role in the practice achieving agreed and other key performance indicator targets
Professional Development
  • Undertake continual personal and professional development, taking an active part in reviewing and developing the role and responsibilities, and provide evidence of learning activity as required.
  • Adhere to organisational policies and procedures, including confidentiality, safeguarding, lone working, information governance, equality, diversity and inclusion training and health and safety.
Miscellaneous
  • Establish strong working relationships with GPs and practice teams and work collaboratively with other staff of the multi-disciplinary team, supporting each other, respecting each others views and meeting regularly as a team.
  • Demonstrate a flexible attitude and be prepared to carry out other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time within the general character of the post or the level of responsibility of the role, ensuring that work is delivered in a timely and effective manner.
  • Contribute to the wider aims and objectives of the PCN to improve and support primary care.
