Roles / Responsibilities

Fortune’s small but mighty legal team, headquartered in the US, seeks a qualified UK attorney to support Fortune’s growing UK business on a part-time (15 hours / week), temporary basis. The team advises all departments on the panoply of legal issues faced by a digitally driven media company with a key differentiator of publishing multiple print magazine editions, fortune.com and operating conferences and events. For this role the focus is on commercial agreements, especially advertising and other sales agreements. The person would have the opportunity to review, draft and negotiate various commercial agreements such as event, sponsorship, advertising, licensing, customer relationship management, adtech, marketing, non-disclosure, vendor release, content license, data license, software as a service (SAAS), technology, data processing, vendor, employment, and many others. The person would also be counselling on compliance-related issues. The role would involve working closely with the General Counsel in NY and the Regional CEO, Fortune UK & Europe and business people in the UK to understand and explain the nature of the deal and risks at a fast-moving pace. We are looking for a person who can provide practical and creative advice and work both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications
  • Qualified UK attorney.
  • 7-10 years of experience at law firm or inhouse legal department specializing in commercial transactions is critical.
  • Experience with intellectual property law, privacy and / or employment laws (including but not limited to California, UK and EU laws, rules and regulations) would be helpful.
  • Experience with drafting and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills.
  • Technical fluency with marketing and ad-tech tools.
  • This is a short-term assignment (12-15 weeks) for now, and we expect the candidate to be covered under SR PII (preferred for freelancers). We are open to engaging the candidate through an umbrella company or a sole trader setup. The pay rate is set at £1000 per week for 15 hours of work.
