Job description

We are looking for an experienced Legal Cashier to join their busy and friendly finance team in Thame, Oxfordshire. This role works together with the rest of the team to ensure the smooth and effective running of the department and closely works with fee earners and support roles within the Firm to process financial transactions. We are seeking someone resilient and quick thinking with a can do approach and ability to multi-task in a high pressure role.

The Finance team consists of Legal Cashiers and Legal Finance Assistants who work with and report to the Head Cashier and Finance Team Manager with the Chief Financial Officer heading up the Finance Department. The team work together to support each other in a fast paced, busy environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensuring compliance with the Solicitors' Accounts Rules
  • Processing all client and office account transactions including using online banking facilities, transferring funds between accounts, making electronic payments and recording receipts
  • Carrying out daily bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate ledgers
  • Processing all accounts receivable (client)
  • Paying interest on client account monies
  • Handling general enquiries and resolving queries (internal only)
  • Housekeeping of files and ledgers and assisting the Head Cashier and Finance Team Leader in ensuring residual balances are dealt with promptly and within SAR timeframes
  • Adhoc administration
  • Contacting bank with queries
  • Reconciliation of control accounts as required
What we are looking for
  • 2+ years experience working in a legal finance environment in compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules essential
  • ILFM Diploma (strongly preferred) or support to undertake it given
  • Proficiency in legal accounting software (previous use of SOS Practice Manager advantageous but not essential)
  • Visualfiles CMS knowledge advantageous but not essential
  • Accuracy & attention to detail with a methodical approach to work
  • Excellent communication - face to face, telephone and written
  • Proficient IT skills using Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Committed team-worker
