Job description
Overview

Function: The activities involved in the post are to participate in curriculum development, establish and deliver our new MSc course in Biotechnology, and contribute to the delivery of lectures, tutorials, seminars and workshops, as well as supervision of hands-on laboratory classes on the main aspects of biotechnology and related fields. The successful candidate is expected to be involved in the School's research activities (publishing, securing funding, and building industry partnerships) and to collaborate with leading national and international academics and researchers. The role also involves participation in the broader academic community through department and school-wide administration and strategic planning. These roles will be offered at either Lecturer B or Senior Lecturer level depending on experience; salary starts at £47,389 for Lecturer B and £58,225 for Senior Lecturer. This is a one-year fixed-term post dedicated to the set up and delivery of the MSc Biotechnology.

Responsibilities
  • Active participation in curriculum development, establishment and delivery of the MSc course in Biotechnology.
  • Delivery of lectures, conduction of tutorials, seminars and workshops, and supervision of hands-on laboratory classes in biotechnology and related fields.
  • Academic mentorship to advise and support students and guide them into their future careers as biotechnologists.
  • Engagement in the School's research activities (publishing, securing funding, building industry partnerships) and collaboration with national and international academics and researchers.
  • Participation in departmental and school-wide administration and strategic planning.
  • One-year fixed-term post aligned with set up and delivery of the MSc Biotechnology.
Qualifications
  • Doctoral qualification in Biotechnology / Biochemical Technology / Engineering Biology or closely related applied subjects.
  • Teaching qualification and/or membership of an appropriate professional body would be advantageous.
  • Experience within the broad landscape of biotechnology and engineering biology, with interests including applied microbiology, bioprocess engineering, and biotechnology of biologically active compounds (e.g. antibiotics, recombinant proteins, vaccines, biopharmaceuticals, enzymes, food and feed additives).
  • Knowledge of topics such as downstream bioprocessing, environmental or industrial biotechnology, biocatalysis and biotransformation, and biomaterials is desirable.
