Imagine working in an environment where you are at the forefront of Electronics and Computer Science, pursuing your research interests and inspiring the next generation. The School of Electronics and Computer Science is a progressive school with a history of pushing the boundaries of what we teach our students – and what they teach us. We value and support our staff in pursuing their research and enterprise activities within their fields of interest.

We have a strong interdisciplinary tradition, reflected in cross-disciplinary research groups and centres and investments such as RAI-UK and the AI for Sustainability CDT. We are one of the top Schools in the UK for research environment and impact (REF 2021). Our reputation for research, enterprise, and teaching is exceptional.

The role

With our support you will develop your academic leadership in Computer Science in a relevant area such as computer engineering, cybersecurity, cyber physical systems, applied formal methods, HCI, human-centred AI, and automation and robotics. You’ll contribute to our international research profile through world-leading research, build your research team by developing bids for funding, generate research impact, and support more junior colleagues in their careers. You will contribute to the development and delivery of the high-quality research-led education that we are so proud of and support our inclusive and collaborative culture.

About you

You will need a PhD, or equivalent professional qualifications, with extensive research experience and a collaborative approach to working across research areas and disciplines. It’s not essential that you have teaching experience, but you must have the confidence and presence to inspire students – through both group lecturing and one-to-one mentoring. Whatever you bring to the team, we’ll support you to develop your presentation skills and keep making progress in our forward-thinking School.

What we can offer you

With a generous holiday allowance and additional university closure days we are committed to supporting our staff and open to a flexible working approach. We give full consideration to applicants that wish to work flexibly and those who have taken a career break.

We particularly encourage applications from people who identify with one or more of the following: Black, Asian, a minority ethnic background, coming from a lower socio-economic background, LGBTQ+, a woman or having a disability as these identities are currently underrepresented in our working community.
