If you're dedicated to helping learners access engaging activities and unlocking their full potential, this is your chance to make a real difference – transforming learning experiences and inspiring success like never before!

About the Role:
  • Provide in‑person and virtual support to designated learners across a range of courses, including assisting with literacy and numeracy, maintaining learner focus, breaking tasks into manageable steps, and managing disruptive or challenging behaviour effectively.
  • Work primarily under the direction of tutors, promoting learner independence and raising expectations to support academic and personal growth.
  • Support learners with written work by reviewing spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG), helping them develop accuracy and confidence. Encourage independence rather than assess work.
  • Assist with access needs on campus, including low‑level personal care, toileting, mobility support (e.g., hoisting, wheelchair use), help in the canteen, and self‑administering medication. Full manual handling and relevant training will be provided.
  • Maintain accurate and timely learner records using college systems, including writing progress reports, understanding and reviewing EHCPs, and tracking outcomes for a caseload of students.
  • Support the safe and effective use of ICT and course‑related equipment, following training and guidance as required.
  • Commit to completing required training and qualifications (e.g., Level 2 Teaching Assistant) within set deadlines to meet the demands of the role.
  • Liaise professionally with stakeholders, including next of kin, external agencies and internal staff, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Promote and uphold the College's Safeguarding and Child Protection policies at all times.
  • Actively contribute to and support the College's commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  • Carry out other duties as reasonably required on behalf of Colchester Institute.
Essential Qualifications:

Essential Experience:
  • A proven commitment to the idea of supporting others to achieve goals.
  • A proven commitment to high standards of support and practice in a professional setting.
  • An awareness of the purpose of learning support within education.
  • Confident user of ICT including internet, e‑mail, Word, Microsoft Teams, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, including listening, reading and writing.

All applications will be assessed against the stated essential requirements, so please ensure your CV clearly demonstrates how you meet them.
