DWP. Digital with Purpose.

We are looking for a Lead IT Asset Manager to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital.

We're using fresh ideas and leading-edge tech to build and maintain digital solutions that will be used by nearly every person in the UK, every day and at key moments in their lives.

DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work, and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support and empower millions of people.

The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?
  • Commercial Strategy & Governance - You can manage large-scale cloud contracts and frameworks within regulated environments, leading commercial strategy and negotiations to ensure value for money and compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Financial Alignment - You can build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across technology, commercial, and finance functions, driving alignment on cloud budgets, forecasts, and financial targets for digital delivery.
  • Technical Leadership & FinOps Integration - You can lead the integration of FinOps principles into engineering teams and digital delivery environments, defining and implementing financial governance mechanisms that support technical decisions and cloud operations.
  • Financial Analysis & Insight - You can use analytical tools and techniques to transform complex financial data into clear insights, trends, and actionable recommendations, presenting performance data to senior leaders to influence strategic decisions.
  • Risk Management & Compliance - You can manage financial risk within technical and operational environments, ensuring compliance with government and departmental financial policies.
  • FinOps Tools & Cloud Platforms - You have hands‑on experience using FinOps platforms and tools (e.g., CloudHealth, Cloudability, native tooling) to manage and optimise spend across cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or OCI.
You and your role

We're looking for a Lead IT Asset Manager to shape how DWP manages and optimises its digital assets across one of Europe's largest cloud environments. This is a key leadership role within Hybrid Cloud Services, where you'll define strategy, set standards, and lead a team focused on FinOps and IT Asset Management. Your work will ensure cloud investments deliver real value, driving cost transparency and empowering teams to make smarter, cost‑aware decisions.

You'll oversee the full IT Asset Management capability, covering legal, regulatory, and contractual compliance for software and hardware across the DWP estate. Your remit spans AWS, Azure, and OCI environments, and includes implementing policies, managing renewals, auditing assets, and reporting on compliance. You'll also lead the development of real‑time dashboards and tooling to monitor cloud usage, costs, and budget adherence, providing actionable insights to engineering teams and senior stakeholders.

Beyond governance, you'll partner with Finance, Commercial, and Delivery leaders to influence cloud contract decisions, optimise spend, and forecast costs. You'll mentor engineers and analysts, embed financial accountability into technical operations, and drive continuous improvement across processes and systems. This is a high‑impact role at the heart of DWP's digital transformation, requiring strong leadership, strategic thinking, and a passion for delivering value at scale.

Location:

You’ll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Blackpool, Manchester or Newcastle, whichever is most convenient for you.

Hybrid Working:

We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.
